Preparing for Surgery

Knowing that your upcoming surgery will give you relief from pain and disability can be very comforting, but it can also cause concern, anxiety, and even feelings of 'loss of control'. Once the decision is made to have surgery, there is likely a waiting period. Use this time to learn about and prepare for your surgery. Familiarizing yourself with what comes next allows you some control and understanding over your treatment.

Click here for our booklet which will help you prepare for your surgery and guide you from referral to rehabilitation and restored mobility.

The information here may not apply to every orthopaedic patient, but most will and will help guide you through your preparations:

Questions to ask before consent: Know the questions to ask to understand the risks and benefits of your surgery.

Questions to ask about recovery: Ask in advance to prepare for your rehabilitation.

Tips for preparing for surgery: your role in your surgery and recovery

Things to do before surgery: A checklist to help you prepare your home and yourself.
